Great one, it works well. Only needed to use a just lv24 dwebble and bulked out the rest with a lv32 stoutland I taught the Rock Tomb tm to. It walled perfectly. The zebstrika, just as in the tries before, proved an easy kill really.

Yes, the lack of a viable counter is the most horrible thing about the gym here. Your possibilities are all mostly limited in usefullness one way or another. Either not resisting electric/flying moves, not having a decent countering move, or just plainly being bad at walling the normally quite weak and frail electric types.

Re: Meteor’s Hidden Money Drain?

How much do the other operators charge as a connection fee?

Re: FUCKING EMOLGAS

This gym was a royal pain, but I did find some effective tricks to beating it...

Dwebble learns Stealth Rock at level 24, and this was extremely useful against Volt Switch. Emolga hit Dwebble hard, but couldn't one-shot it (Sturdy ability). Every time they got off a Volt Switch, the swap would take a fair amount of damage (~20% of it's health). From here on, it was simply a matter of outlasting them with lemonades as they swap-killed themselves.

I managed to burn one with a Yamask's Will O' Wisp, which helped. When the two Emolgas got down to half health or so, I swapped in Sandile to throw up Embargo. Aerial Ace is not quite as powerful as Volt Switch, so I was able to simply wear the first one down with the burn with Embargo blocking the hyper potions and Sandile's ground type preventing Volt Switch. When the first one died, I swapped in Audino to eat some damage while I distributed lemonade, then swapped a fully healed Dwebble back in to unleash Smack Down on the second.

With those two irritants out of the way, I managed Zebstrika with Torment and Embargo from Sandile, and a couple of sacrificial pokemon thrown in to buy me time to heal. I got Yamask healed back up and burned it, then swapped between Drillbur and Yamask every other turn until it died - it would use Quick Attack as I swapped to Yamask (Ghost), and then Spark as I switched to Drillbur (Ground), and couldn't heal due to Embargo.

Three dead pokemon and a dozen lemonades later, I had my badge and my TM. It took an unusually high amount of switching, healing, and strategic planning for being only the fourth gym, but this was the first time I felt like I had to work hard for a badge since I played a hacked "hard mode" version of FireRed (Brock had an Aerodactyl - yeah, that was fun).

The good news is that you can snag Emolga on Route 5 and you get the Volt Switch TM from the leader.

TL;DR

Stealth Rock, Torment, and Embargo. Control the opponent's switches and items. Also, if an Emolga starts stacking Double Team, let it Volt Switch out and lose its benefits.

Re: FUCKING EMOLGAS

I literally typed in "FUCK EMOLGA" to find a blog like this. Defeating that gym leader was really not about the game at all but trying to prevent myself from getting a hernia. I think it'd wouldn't be so irritating if the pokemon didn't look like such a hyper active little shit.

Plus I forgot that rock is not immune to electric attacks and nearly shat my pants when my Geodude knockoff was taken out by one volt charge.

Re: Portal 2 – First Impressions

I bought the PS3 version, to get the Steam version but PSN went down before Amazon delivered it so I only played it for about an hour. Got PSN and Steam synced last night, downloaded the 10GBs of data and spent a happy few hours at the game using a mouse and keyboard :)

TF2 some time? Right now I'm between Hungary and Spa, and currently have Lotus wanting to re-sign me (but as Driver #1 though, which is a fair kicker I must say), HRT have put out an offer, and even BMW Sauber have offered a ride, but only as Driver 2.

Force India, Toro Rosso and Virgin are all still listed as interested right now. Will have to see what happens between now and Abu Dhabi!

Re: Racing Log

A wee tip, don't sign for any new team or turn down any offers until just before the last race of the season. Had no issues with the vast majority of other games, the only ones with issues have been Source engine games, Fallout 3 (but then again everyone has issues with that) and Civ V (again, everyone has those issues). Also, it's not like I'm running anything legacy or old-school, when I bought the components they were relatively mid-to-high market. Then again it may also be a 64-bit thing.

Re: Random Game Crashes

Well, this TF2 error has been persistent since even before I got my new monitor and started running a dual-screen setup.

Re: Random Game Crashes

Yeah I get what you mean, I just thought it might have been something worth looking into really. But I've never really heard of Source games having problems running in 64 bit mode...
